Remove:

  • Saddlebags

  • Side Panels

  • Seat

  • Tank Cover

On the throttle side of the bike, you will see a bracket attached to the air filter cover, attached to this bracket is a sort of disc-shaped part that has two fat hoses and one skinny hose attached to it - this is the vacuum shut-off valve. The two fat hoses are the fuel in and fuel out, the skinny hose is the vacuum line.

Remove the vacuum line and plug it with a screw or whatever is handy.

Connect the fuel in line directly to the fuel filter.

The vacuum shut off valve goes on a shelf somewhere with the last bit of fuel hose doubled over to cover both fuel connections.

Use the bracket to hang out of the way farkles!

Current Wisdom
Current wisdom seems to indicate that (in my opinion anyway) it should be left in.  It can be taken out in an emergency, but the problems with leaving it out (like hydrolock) outweigh any potential gain.  Asking this question among a group will produce opinions along the lines of, "What's the best oil?"
